Annual Day of Service and Remembrance
Saturday, September 10th, 8:00 a.m. till Noon
WWII Memorial and Jonas Green Park, Annapolis
The Friends of Anne Arundel County Trails is proud to partner with the Volunteer Center for Anne Arundel County, the Midshipman Action Group and the Watershed Stewards Academy as we prepare the WWII Memorial and Jonas Green Park for the coming season. Join hundreds of like-minded citizens honoring those who gave their lives to protect our nation and those who perished on 9-11 as they transform these special places. The day begins at 8:00 a.m. with a service at the WWII Memorial on RT 450, Annapolis. To help out, please pre-register at www.aacvc.org/specialevents or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Tools will be provided, refreshments and lunch.
Following this, hundreds of Midshipmen and community volunteers descend upon Jonas Green Park to prepare it for fall. Typically a drainage ditch is cleaned out and restructured, an overgrown path along the perimeter of the park is weeded, pounds of debris are collected, rain gardens are cleaned out and refurbished and bushes and trees are mulched. Unless thunderstorms are evident, activities take place rain or shine. Within a three hour span, the park is literally sparkling. Lunch is provided as the morning comes to a close.
