One of Our Newest very Exciting Projects:

    Enhancing the WB&A Trail

    Odenton's Babington Green

At the intersection of Two of Anne Arundel Counties trails is Odenton's Babington Green, soon to become another jewel on the Counties already multiple award winning trail system.  This triangular piece of property at Piney Orchard Parkway and Odenton Road is already changing with the addition of  some plantings.  It will continue to transform in the future.  The speed of the transformation depends upon YOU.  Many generous donations have been made but more are needed to complete the planned vision to create a park complete with a gazebo, dramatic landscaping, Spruce tree for Holiday lighting and dedicated benches and brick pathways.

Interested donors may contact Friends of Anne Arundel County Trails.  Orders for Lasting gifts such as bricks, benches, tables and more may be downloaded from the lasting gifts page and mailed to our post office box.

Recent Press Release:

 Odenton's Babington Green

The Greater Odenton Improvement Association, Inc. (GOIA) and the Friends of Anne Arundel County Trails (both volunteer organizations) are working with the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks developing a park at the crossroads of Odenton Road and Piney Orchard Parkway.

The park site has been named Odenton’s Babington Green.  Native trees, shrubs and flowers will transform the currently empty lot into a lovely park.  Pathways will lead to the gazebo, benches and bike rack.  Members of the Odenton Heritage Society are working with us to design a history story board that will capture and preserve the culture of Odenton.  From the future park site, one can see the original rails that in 1874 served to make Odenton the hub of railroad activity.   Odenton has a rich railroad history as this community served as the junction for the WB&A Interurban Railroad and the Annapolis Elkridge Railroad (South Shore Line.   Both railroad lines merged in 1908 to become the WB&A Railroad.  Once again, Odenton will serve as an important urban transportation hub because it is the nexus of two trails, the WB&A trail and the South Shore trail.  Both trails are part of the East Coast Greenway Project extending from Florida to Maine.  Odenton’s Babington Green sits at the head of the WB&A trail and will serve as a resting spot for local community residents as well as those individuals enjoying the Anne Arundel County trails.

Our goal is to begin this project in 2007, but we need your help.  Please help us preserve Odenton’s Babington Green space by giving a tax deductible donation.  No amount is too small.  Donors giving $400 or more will be recognized on a plaque that will be permanently placed in the park. A commemorative plaque will be placed on a bench in the park for those wishing to donate a lasting gift of $1500.00 in honor of someone very special or as a memorial.  Please send your tax deductible donation marked for Odenton’s Babington Green along with your name, address, phone number to:
